FLORENCE, S.C. — The Bridal Hut in Florence has been in business more than 45 years in the same locations. On Tuesday a ribbon cutting was held at the Bridal Hut to celebrate joining the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce.
Owner Radha Dillah cut the ribbon. She was joined by chamber staff and ambassadors.
“I am the third owner,” Dillah said. “The previous owner retired.”
Dillah said she was originally in the alterations business and continues to own R&D, a sewing shop on Church Street.
She said one day out of the blue the previous owner of the Bridal Hut came to her and asked her to take over the business.
“She was retiring and wanted me to keep the business open,” Dillah said.
Dillah has been doing alterations since 2007. Her family moved here from New York. She learned to sew from her mother, who worked in a garment factory.

Her mother was a seamstress also, and she was her mother’s helping hand.
After moving to Florence, Dillah said, she went to church one Sunday and the church needed someone who could sew to help with angel Christmas costumes. She volunteered. It was announced at church and business started coming her way. That is when she opened her sewing business.
The Bridal Hut carries wedding gowns, bridal party gowns, party dresses, prom dresses, mother-of-the -bride and groom dresses, tux rentals, accessories and jewelry. It does alterations, too.
Dillah said she is still trying to find people to work with for a turnkey operation.
“I enjoy what I do,” she said. “The time goes really quickly.”
Dillah said a lot that goes into planning a wedding. At the Bridal Hut, she tries to make the dress decision as stress free as possible.
“Sometimes when the bride put the dress on it shows on their face,” Dillah said. “Once they are in love with the dress they just light up and all the stress goes away.”
Dillah has two sons who work with her.
The Bridal Hut is at 1605-B W. Palmetto St. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
