COWARD, S.C. -- The Lynches River early Sunday afternoon crested at 18 feet in Effingham -- the point where a moderate flood becomes a major flood, according to the National Weather Service's hydrological page for the river.

MARION, S.C. -- Marion County officials and first responders had to use every resource available in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew making landfall in the state Saturday. Marion County Administrator Tim Harper said between 10-12 inches of rain was dumped. However, a gage reported from Neal Baxley Farms recorded up to 17.8 inches.
