SCDOT: Florence, Darlington, Marion county bridges to be replaced
FLORENCE, S.C. — Several aging Pee Dee bridges will be replaced with grant money received by the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
SCDOT announced it has received $23.5 million in competitive Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grants to replace 18 bridges across nine counties, with most located in the Pee Dee.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation shifted traffic on McIver Road in Darlington County on Tuesday.
Florence, Darlington and Marion counties will receive five of those bridge replacement projects.
Most of the bridges included in the grant are between 50 and 100 years old and are classified as being in poor condition, according to SCDOT.
Several have load restrictions or are currently closed.
