MARION, S.C. — Marion County School District Superintendent Dr. Kandace Bethea spent the past week on Capitol Hill serving as a governing board member for the American Association of School Administrators. Bethea also serves as the South Carolina Association of School Administrators president and was appointed as state representative, networking with lawmakers during the Legislative Advocacy Conference and board meeting.
“I am honored to serve as the President of the SCASA Superintendent’s division, this year,” Bethea said. “I look forward to working alongside the great superintendents that serve students across our state.”
Bethea said the week included insightful discussions and a strong focus on advancing education policy. She was able to meet with Congressional leaders and education staffers on several topics including the implications of the proposed cuts to federal funding, teacher recruitment and retention challenges along with resources to support the growing clinical needs of students.

The South Carolina Association of School Administrators is a professional organization for public education leaders in South Carolina. Members include assistant principals, principals, district leaders, district superintendents, retired school leaders, and college of education deans.
“The opportunity to represent South Carolina administrators on the AASA governing board and engage with Congressional leaders on Capitol Hill was a great experience,” Bethea said. “The visit was an important step in our ongoing efforts to ensure that the voices of our students, teachers, and communities are heard at the highest levels of government.”
