Surrounded by the cheers of hundreds of excited North Vista Elementary School tigers, Principal Sharon Dixon received an unforgettable surprise Friday afternoon when she was named the Florence 1 Schools Principal of the Year.
Dixon’s family watched proudly as district administrators presented her with flowers and balloons, along with a banner that can be hung at North Vista to celebrate her award.
Shand Josey, assistant superintendent for elementary education, said that Dixon embodies the very best qualities of a school principal.
“Mrs. Sharon Dixon has been the cornerstone of North Vista Elementary and the school community, serving as the principal for 30 years,” Josey said. “She leads with a genuine love for children and an unwavering belief in their ability to succeed. Her passion for students, dedication to her staff, and commitment to finding new ways to help students thrive have helped shape North Vista into the special place it is today. Mrs. Dixon has made a lasting difference in the lives of so many students and families, and we are honored to recognize her as Florence One Schools’ Principal of the Year.”
Dixon has served in many different roles and has positively impacted numerous school communities in Florence 1 since she first joined the district as a classroom teacher. During her time at North Vista, she has overseen the move to a new building twice, continuing a culture of excellence “Where Great Minds Grow.”
