MARION, S.C. – Marion City Council recognized their clerk for her hard work in and out of the office during Tuesday’s meeting.
Lakesha Shannon was named City Employee of the Month for helping to organize a black history program last month at the C.D. Joyner Auditorium.
“The event truly honored the rich history, culture and contributions of African Americans in the city of Marion,” she said. “Seeing the community come together in such a meaningful way was an unforgettable experience.”
Shannon recently visited the South Carolina State House to celebrate Women’s History Month with the American Business Women’s Association. Shannon was also recognized by the Dillon-Marion County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority as an African American Trailblazer in economic development.
Mayor Ashley Brady thanked Shannon for her efforts.

In other business, Linda Adams discussed Pee Dee Coalition of Marion events.
“April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse and Prevention Awareness Month,” she said. The group offers an offender intervention program for the reduction of relationship violence, satellite centers and emergency safe shelters.
Council approved second reading of Ordinance 25-01. An ordinance authorizing the annexation of certain property into the city of Marion.
Council approved a bid for a concrete walkway for the Green Street baseball field to Harrington Construction for $13,320.
Council approved tennis court resurfacing for $72,000 total cost, starting with a down payment of $21,600.
